Jennifer E. Price Extra Credit

Jennifer Price is a fine arts printmaker from UK. In her presentation she organized it with questions she always ask herself. She said that she is constantly questioning herself as an artist.

The first question was should art perform a duty? The answer to that was yes. Artwork can be used as propaganda, art can can create or display culture, and it can show hatred or love in christ.

The second question she had was what is my artwork about? She was a huge drinker while in college and one night she was hospitalized and found out that she had multiple personality disorder. Her artworks focus is inkblots. This is when you put ink on one object and place a sheet or some sort of cloth on the object and the pull it off and the inkblots appear. She said that her multiple personality disorder has a lot to do with her inkblots she does because people can make up what they want to see in her image and that the object she uses almost has "two personalities." There is the object itself and then what it looks like when the sheet is peeled off.

Her third question was can obstacles be overcame? She said yes because she has overcome many obstacles her self. Some obstacles she overcame were she was broke in college, she wasn't discover how she wanted to be, was homeless and sold artwork in markets, was attacked and insulted by some one she thought was her friend, and got in a major car accident. She said that the last thing she thought to herself before she died was "I can't die yet. I haven't done anything to be remembered for."

This is when she turned things around and became a bigger artist. Her last question was am I an artist? Her answer was "Yes, I am because I say so."

I thought she was very inspirational and gave people a reason not to give up on their dream. I would definitely go to one of her galleries.
