Class and Project Notes

This week in class we went to Reedy Creek Park to check it out and see what areas we could use for our project. For the project I am making a video. The video will be about "nature setting your mind free" and "going wherever the wind takes you." I want this video to let peoples mind wonder like they would if you just sit in nature to think about anything. I am going to hang some of nature off of a tree so it blows with the wind. I am going to video parts of nature and put it all together. I did not attend the Park on Wednesday, but I wanted to let you know that I did work on my project. I worked with iMovie on my computer and figured out some great video techniques. I downloaded music and nature noises that I want to work into my video. This weekend I plan to go to the park and video and finish my project at home Monday.

Reading Notes

Skip Schukmann

Before:
1. Where do his ideas come from for his installations?
2. Does he do any other type of artwork besides installations?
3. What is his background?

After:
1. How long has he been using the "one on one" process?
2. Does he ever do artwork that does not involve nature and plainness?
3. Does he regret not working with society as a whole? or is he happy with his relationships he builds with his clients?

I think Schukmann is a very smart man. His idea with working with a client one on one and working with nature is great. He spends less money without having to buy supplies and he creates a great relationship with his clients. I just wish that some of his artwork would be directed to the public so that everyone could see what artwork he has done.

Betsy Damon

Before:
1. Does all of her artwork have to do with nature?
2. What possessed her to create landscape plans?
3. Does she work with any other medium?

After:
1. Does she regret leaving painting?
2. I wonder if she feels strongly about anything else like she does about water? For example air or food?
3. How long did it take to finish the water park?

I think Damon is a great artist and great person. All the time and effort she put in to make a point about water and to try to improve the water in China is amazing. The water park is such a great artwork. I think her leaving painting was a great step for her.

Class notes

This week in class we watched movies. The first one was about the umbrellas in japan and california. I think this whole project was neat, but it was also very sad. I wish weather wouldn't have ruined the weather. The videos we watched on Wednesday were about artist who do installation projects and performance art. All of the artist were awesome and some were even crazy. For example the artist that shot himself and sat in a locker for 5 days with no food. I could never do something like that. We were suppose to go to the park today, but the rain was too much. Now we are going on Monday. I really need to go so I can come up with some more ideas for my project.

Class Notes and project notes.

Last week in class we only had class on wed. We watched a movie about an artist who uses nature in his artwork. His artworks were really great. The way he thought of these ideas was crazy. I loved all of his work.

This next project is about the environement. I'm not really sure what I want to do at all. I love nature and being outside. I played outdoor sports all of my life and like being outside. So I might do something involving that. I thought of an idea of hanging leaves, sticks, and other nature things from a limb to show that nature gives you a sense of freedom and go where the wind takes you. So that is one idea I have so that the leaves can move wherever they want and show the sense of freedom.

Consumption Final Project

My final project was a picture skirt. I had six rows of seven, which ends up being 42 pictures. What I wanted to convey in this was people that consumed my life. I have my mom, dad, boyfriend, roommates, brother, and best friends all incorporated in this skirt. The first, third, and fifth row are pictures that I have taken of my friends and family. I wanted to show that photography takes up a huge part of my life. The second, fourth, and sixth row shows me consuming my time with my friends. The skirt was really fun to make, but it also took a lot of time because I had to thread the string through every single corner of every picture.

Here is my project:

Class Notes

This week in class we had Malean Bergmann come into class and speak to us about her film piece. It is crazy how much time and money goes into such a short film. There were so many concepts behind the video that I could not see from first seeing the film. On Wed. we had our consumption projects due. The ideas that people came up with were so different and really cool. This project made us think outside of the box and the ideas people came up with were great. I loved all the projects.
