William Kentridge and Nan Goldin

William Kentride

Before:
-Why are most of his works black and white?
-Why do his art works start with "History of?"
-Are video stills his favorite media?

After:
-Why are none of his works really about him? Instead of them always being about South Africa?
-If he would have been born somewhere else, would he have become an artist?
-Why does he choose to make films his main focus?

Nan Goldin

Before:
-Why are most of her pictures about death or pain?
-Does she do anything else besides photography?
-What made her become an artist?

After:
-If Goldin's sister wouldn't have died would she still have been interested in photography?
-How many years did it take to produce Ballad?
-Are all of Goldin's photographs vulgar? or are there some that are about happiness and peace?

First day of class

The first day of concept studio went very well. I did not really know what to expect of this class, but it seems like it is going to be fun. We have a couple of projects we are going to have to work on. The first one is identity, which seems pretty cool to me. We talk about how art influences people, realism, abstraction, and non-objective art. I cannot wait for this class to continue because I think its going to be a fun and interesting class.
